Even if AMD doesn't have good financials this quarter, guidance should be strong with AMD powering Sony's PlayStation and Google's Stadia as well as cutting into Intel's server market

Intel holds the patents to the x86 instruction set. Anyone wanting to make a x86 based CPU needs to license this from Intel. If nVidia wants to make a x64 CPU, it would have to license x86 from Intel and x64 from AMD. While not impossible, this would not be cheap for nVidia, hindering their ability to compete.

both companies hold a Patent Cross License Agreement which exempts AMD and Intel from patent infringement. AMD pays nothing to Intel for licensing. AMDs x86-64 is x86 64 bit designation. other companies using either intels x86 (designated after the 8086 chipsets) and AMDs x86-64. nvidea would have to licence from AMDs x86-64 as well as intel

Does Nvidia even make processors that anyone knows about? If I remember correctly, they make arm processors, but you wouldn't use that in anything other than mobile devices.

IDC is still tabulating the final numbers, but AMD appears to be gaining market share over Intel in light of the company's chip shortage, which has been going on since last year.

AMD is currently trading around $3 more than the 200 day MA, but technical analysis aside you have to understand the sector. The three main heavy hitters in this specific case are Intel, Nvidea and AMD. AMD has caught up to Intel in the consumer sector due to equal if not better performance from consumer CPUs at a better price point. Every gaming console runs AMD architecture. Intel isnt meeting chip demands on older 14nm chipsets and setbacks with their 10nm architectures, while AMD has already been producing 7nm architectures with no shortages. AMD has been behind in the GPU market because of their focus on their CPU sector and are now turning to strengthen their GPU market. Nvidea is having growing pains with their over priced RTX line, Intel now trying again at GPUs (failed attempts in the past) despite their other issues. AMD has also gained in enterprise markets, chipsets are cheaper and companies are upgrading servers all the time. And crypto mining hasn't been a growth catalyst

The whole tech sector is overvalued. When earnings come, we'll see crashes of 20%. Mark my words. Take profits before earnings on any stock in tech before earnings.

totally agree with MH. It happened late last year. I sold and took big profits and got back into soon before it actually hit bottom. Then I had keep buying low to average out the high price I paid. It took months for it to hit break even point and I did manage to make a tiny profit, but a lot of my money was ***for a long time in AMD.I used to be on the AMD bandwagon. When it starts going down, take profits and don't buy again until the downward trend stabilizes..

It's dangerous for you to become a fan of any stock. It compromises your rationale and causes you to ignore warning signs. I almost lost a lot on Intel then I came to my senses and shorted.

Because it's overpriced. Two things happen in this situation. Either the stock price stagnates until the intrinsic value catches up with the stock price or they keep pumping it until it explodes and goes to being undervalued.

It's a $25-$26 stock. I don't care what crackpot analyst tells $35. They're wrong. They own the stock and have a vested interest in seeing it skyrocket. After it skyrockets they take profits and plummets back to reality.
